Medical transcription vs medical coding....?

I am currently going back to school for medical transcription and wanted to know if I should switch to medical coding? I am aware of the fact you can not work from home with coding and you have to get certified. I want to know how much difference there is as far as salary goes for the two? Just from my research it seems you can make more in coding than in transcription but I wanted to hear from others out there who are actually working in transcription. How long does it usually take to make a decent salary in transcription? Thanks for any info.Medical transcription vs medical coding....?
It depends on whether you would like to eventually work at home. If you're wanting to work at home, you should consider doing the medical transcription, and this would allow you to work at home.

Medical Transcription allows you to type from audio a bunch of different type of reports such as operative, history and physicals, autopsy, lab, discharge and so on.

Medical coding is where you're responsible for knowing the codes of each speciality, part of the body and the services that are designed for each service.Medical transcription vs medical coding....?
Medical coders do generally get paid more than transcriptionists. And if you are only considering transcription for the work at home aspect of it, there is one company that is hiring medical coders to work from home. They are out of Salt Lake. AviaCode is their company name. Not sure if that is the correct spelling.

I think in order to get highly paid in medical transcription, you need to have a very fast typing speed and some years experience. But it is possible to make a good income as an MT.
